Code of ethics

AI News Nepal follows the Journalist Code of Conduct issued by the Press Council Nepal. On top of that, our journalists and editors commit to the following.

Independence

  • We do not accept gifts, money or favours in return for coverage.
  • Journalists do not cover subjects in which they have a personal, financial or political interest, or they declare that interest.

Privacy and dignity

  • We do not report on people’s private lives unless there is a public interest.
  • We do not identify children, survivors of sexual violence or people at risk.
  • We report accidents, disasters and deaths with respect for victims and their families.
  • When reporting suicide, we do not describe the method.

Against discrimination

We do not publish content that spreads hatred or discrimination on the grounds of caste, ethnicity, gender, religion, region, language, disability or sexuality.

Fair trial

People accused of a crime are not called criminals unless a court has convicted them. Reporting on cases still before the courts sticks to the facts.

Honesty

We do not use other people’s work without permission and credit. When we cite another outlet’s reporting, we name it.

How we work day to day is set out in our editorial policy.
